Mary earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Welfare from the Ohio Dominican University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the Ohio State University. She is a Certified Trauma Specialist through the TLC Institute and also holds a School Social Work License through the Ohio Department of Education.
Mary enjoys working with clients of all ages. She engages children as young as 4 years old, and with their parents, assists them in identifying their emotions and helps them build emotional management skills. She provides parents of preschoolers with information on developmental stages and behavior management. She is skilled in counseling teens and adults with matters of stress management, depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD, and trauma/PTSD. She is especially accomplished in understanding victims of child abuse and neglect, their behaviors and emotional struggles. Mary also helps clients identify the stressors associated with children of parents who abuse drugs and alcohol.
Mary uses a combination of therapeutic styles that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (examining thought processes and how they relate to feelings and behaviors) and Strengths Based/ Solution Focused Therapy (setting short term goals and discovering and using strengths in order to identify and implement a solution to the problem.) She is described by clients as a kind and caring person who can easily develop rapport and trust, the first and most important step in treatment.
